Greet your child with a smile, not a mobile!
Further to the guidance provided for schools by the Education Secretary (Bridget Phillipson), that schools should be mobile phone-free zones and that students “should not have access to their devices during lessons, break times, lunchtimes or between lessons”, please note that Rowan Education has always exercised a ban on students using their mobile phones during the school day. Once again, we thank our students, staff, families and colleagues for continuing to observe this ban and contributing to the smooth and peaceful running of the school. Please see our Policy for details.

Helen Hockaday is the Head of Rowan Education Independent School. She and Chris Hockaday (Business & Compliance Manager) are the co-founders of Rowan Education. They are fierce advocates of the mental health of, and emotional support for both adults and children/young people and of the need to recognise individual needs and address them consistently and successfully.
Rowan Education implements safeguarding protocols in all aspects of their working practices and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and all young people.
Since ancient times the Rowan tree has been known as the Tree of Life, symbolising courage, wisdom and protection. They can be found clinging to the barest of rock crevices, and are therefore also known for their ability to find a foothold and thrive even in the most unlikely of environments.
This is why we chose the Rowan tree for our name and our logo – to reflect our firm belief in the need for all children to have the opportunity to develop the tools for a good life as they emerge from childhood and adolescence, and also the potential for progress and growth in spite of difficult or challenging circumstances.
Our core values are:
Respect – for all, regardless of origins, ethnicity, gender, abilities etc.
Ownership – of our actions, successes and mistakes.
Well-being and safety – of all pupils and staff.
Awareness – of developing problems, signs of difficulties and worries.
Nurturing – to all pupils to help them through difficult times/transitions.
Esteem – build and foster for good mental health/emotional prosperity.
Diversity – celebrating and embracing difference to highlight similarity.
